Nordic Online Conference: Gender-based Hate, Threat and Harassment on the Internet

The conference aims to

➢ inform and exchange knowledge about Nordic experiences of hate, threat and sexual harassment on the Internet from a gender perspective
➢ discuss the phenomenon with the starting point in reports, analyzes, research, seminars and conferences published and arranged during the last years within the framework of the Nordic co-operation
➢ present, discuss and develop measures and tools aiming for the prevention of online hate, threat and harassment and their consequences in public spaces in the Nordic region.
➢ strengthen gender equality.
Target audience: Nordic and Baltic experts, authorities, decision-makers and NGOs

Background: Gender-based hate speech, threat and harassment on the internet is a problem that all the Nordic countries are struggling with. The phenomenon is connected to several other challenges in our societies and forms a threat against equality, democracy and the freedom of speech.

As part of the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2021 Finland will be hosting a conference aiming to recognize good practices and concrete measures for the prevention of online hate and harassment and its negative consequences for both individuals and the society.

The discussion will be based on recent analyzes, reports and seminars arranged in the Nordic countries and deepened by the broad range of experts from the region.
