Webinarium: The impact of COVID-19 pandemic on women and womens rights in Latin America
Some key questions to the panel of this webinar are; How can this complex situation be understood and what consequences for women in Latin America can we see? What government policies and interventions are needed to secure womens rights during and after this crisis?
The response to COVID-19 should consider gender-specific experiences and needs since women are in a particularly vulnerable situation. Poverty, extreme poverty and inequality will increase in all countries in Latin America. As women are more precariously employed and account for a larger percentage of informal workers they are, for example, more exposed to the risk of unemployment. Women are also at the forefront of the response, as health professionals, care workers and community volunteers. We know that the burden of unpaid domestic work assumed by women and gender-based violence increase significantly.
